Must-Have Snacks For Writers

We all love snacks. The number one snack I often hear recommended for writers is CHOCOLATE! I'm sure you can agree that chocolate should definitely be at the top of the list.

But what about other snacks and drinks?

Are you looking for a way to reward yourself for making your goal?

I asked some other writers what their favorite snacks and drinks are. I want to share some of my top recommendations to you today!

Here is a bullet list of many of the snacks listed!

  • Cinnamon cookies with peanut butter
  • Chocolate
  • Animal crackers
  • Dry cereal
  • Gummy bears/candy
  • Trail mix
  • Nuts
  • Popcorn
  • Crackers
  • Goldfish
  • Wasabi-covered peas (not sure if these are salty, per se, but they're spicy!)
  • Chips and salsa or hummus
  • Pretzels
  • Any fruit
  • Sliced apples with peanut-butter-and-honey for dipping (You could also use almond butter and honey.)
  • Carrots and peanut butter or almond butter
  • Kale chips (Put Dijon mustard on kale and bake the kale in the oven till crunchy.)
  • Yogurt with fruit and granola
  • Granola and almond milk

Wow, some of those are actually sounding really good right now . . .

I love grabbing a snack while I write every now and then, although I often have trouble writing and eating at the same time. Depends on what I'm working on! What about you?


Here's a list of some favorite drinks!
  • WATER (This is a must whether you like it or not! Drinking water while you write will help you!)
  • White cranberry strawberry juice
  • Iced tea
  • Herbal tea
  • Bubble tea
  • Coffee
  • Juice and sparkling water mixed together (for a "healthier" alternative to soda)
  • Smoothie
  • Super healthy smoothie (I usually add spinach, kale, frozen fruit, ginger, chia seeds, hemp hearts seeds, almond milk, and water! It actually doesn't taste so bad. The fruit helps a lot!)

  2. Those sound like good snacks! I am hungry now. :D One of my favorite things to eat while I write is pretzels and peanut. It just flows!

  3. Hi Julia! Those snacks sound amazing! I love to eat Cheez-its or plainer crackers with cheese; and as I get more motivated to write, I'm sure I'll be eating them as I type away!

  6. I love Apple and peanut butter. Though it can get messy if I'm trying to write at the same time.

  7. Ooo these sound great! I don't eat a lot as I write, I don't like my fingers getting dirty. As a result I'll eat M&Ms sometimes because I've found them to be less messy. However, I have to ask, what do you mean by cinnamon cookies with peanut butter? Do you dip cinnamon cookies in peanut butter or is it a kind of cookie?

    1. Same! Apples are nice for me because they don't get my fingers dirty either.
      That's a good question! I think that was suggested by another YDubber, so I'm not sure which! I would think it's a kind of cookie, but I'm not totally sure. ;)
