My Writing Journey | June 2019 Update + Accountability for YOU!

by - June 28, 2019

Hey there, friends! Welcome back to another My Writing Journey update! Are you ready to set new goals for the month of July?

Did I complete my goals for this month?

Here were my goals for the month of June: 1) submit article to The Rebelution, 2) keep brainstorming/outlining my novel and/or The Captive Bride (TCB), 3) edit Healed by the Storm (HBS) if able, and 4) keep blogging every Friday.

What I did this month: 1) Yes, I finally submitted the article to The Rebelution! 2) Yes, I have made good progress on my novel. I can't remember if I made any progress on TCB, though. 3) I can't remember for sure, but I'm wanting to say yes, I did edit HBS this month. 4) Yes, I have been posting every Friday on my blog!

It's been a good month! But let's dive deeper to see what else I've been working on. . . .

Accepted or Rejected?

Well, as you read a moment ago, I submitted my article to The Rebelution. After hearing back from the editor this past week, we'll be making some edits, but it's going to be published! I will be making a post about it next week!!

Novel Update!

This month, I've made good progress on my third novel. Unfortunately, the book is still untitled. It's actually annoying not to have a title. Oh well. I can't rush it because when I find a title and start using it temporarily, it juuuusssstttt might stick. And then I'll have to get myself to change it to the new (and better) one.

So, yeah, I don't want to rush. I expect I will find a title either at the end of my outline, or when I am writing the first draft.

How far am I on my outline? Ooh, yikes. That's a good question... It's hard to say how far I am in the book because I'm not yet sure how long the book will be when my characters reach their destination. Right now, my characters have left home and are traveling on the Oregon Trail, hoping to reach either Oregon or CaliforniaI haven't decided yet.

Oh, may I just say that I'm SOOO glad I'm outlining this book!! I can't even fathom going by the seat of my pants on this one, like I did with In His Hands.* IHH did not turn out well, which is why it needs a complete rewrite if I even want to take the time to rewrite it. Oh well, I definitely learned from my mistake.

*(I'm not saying outlining is a must for writing a novelalthough I certainly recommend it. If pantsing works for you, then go for it! It just doesn't work for me, and that's okay.)

Future Plans for My Novel

This month, I'd like to keep outlining my novel. I don't have many other plans other than finishing this outline at some point. =)

What I'm Working On Now

So what else am I working on?

You already know that I'm working on my novel. Other than that, I'm not working on many other fiction projects. I do need to keep working on HBS, though.

In nonfiction, I have a couple articles in the running and which might be submitted in future months.

What Writing Music Have I Been Listening to Lately?

Whaaaaa, I've been listening to music as I write??? If you know me, you know I love music, so it's often hard to concentrate on writing at the same time. But yep, surprisingly, I've actually been listening to music while writing lately! (I'm actually listening to music right now as I write this post!)

So I thought it would be fun to add a section in this post dedicated to music. I absolutely LOVE music! My sisters and I play piano and sing, and my dad is very musical, too.

Anyway, while I've been writing or doing school, I've been listening mainly to Chopin - Nocturne and Pachelbel - Canon in D - 1 HOUR LONG. The Nocturne is beautiful, and the Canon in D by Pachelbel (the video has an extra L on Pachelbel) is calming and relaxing, so it doesn't distract me very muchwhich is great! Also, it's an hour long, so I don't have to keep replaying it, which is super nice!

I hope you check out these two lovely pieces of music and maybe listen to them as you write and/or do school! Let me know what you think in the comments below!!

What are my goals for next month?

My main goal for next month is to continue outlining my novel and get some good progress on that.

what about you?

What did you ACCOMPLISH this month? Did you COMPLETE your goals? What are your NEW GOALS for the month of June? Tell me about it in the comments below!!

  1. I was at camp without electronics for the month of June, so writing wise I didn't have any goals, but for July I'm doing Camp Nano for the first time!! My word count goal is currently 2.5k...we'll see how it changes. That's definitely my big writing goal this month.
I love Canon in D, although I can't write to instrumental music. XD
And yes, keep up these posts!!

  2. Sounds like you had a great month, Julia!

My main goals for July are to read a lot; continue editing my WIP; finish a short story (and possibly edit it); and submit a poem for publication somewhere. :)
