How to Start Getting Published...TODAY

by - February 10, 2019

Welcome, writers, readers, and awesome supporters!

Today's post is a request from my friend. After I got
my article published on TheRebelution a couple weeks ago, she asked if I would make a blog post about how she could get published, too.

That's an awesome question. It's really not that scary. Of course, you work hard, but once you receive that email of acceptance, you know it was all worth it.

That's how it is with me, but I'm sure you want me to stop talking so we can get going.

Let’s go!

1. WRITE SOMETHING

As a first step, you obviously have to decide what you want to write. Short stories? Articles? Poems?
Can't think a topic? Brainstorm or ask your parents or friends.

Listen to your pastor's sermon! I get inspired to write articles after listening to a great sermon! (But don’t use his sermon as an outline.)

2. FIND YOUR WEBSITE

Find a website that will (possibly) publish your writing.

Personally, I have submitted to Story Embers and The Rebelution, but I have only been published on The Rebelution so far.

Some sites cost money to submit to them; others don't. Story Embers and The Rebelution are free.

Find a website that fits your writing.

 3. READ THE WEBSITE'S STATEMENT OF FAITH (IF THEY HAVE ONE)

You don't want to contradict a website's statement of faith and get rejected because of that, so be sure to read through the statement of faith carefully. (Story Embers' statement of faith is at the top of the submissions guidelines.)

Remember that if you are published on the website, your name will be attached to that site, so be sure it holds the same beliefs as you do!

4. FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES AND SUBMIT!

Once you've created a piece you're ready to submit, carefully read through their submission guidelines and make sure you’ve followed all of them.

Then, take a deep breath and press "send" on the email!

THERE, YOU'VE DONE IT! CONGRATS!

And you can do it. Just because you're young, that doesn't mean you can't make a difference in this world.
